6 Great Places to Buy Photography Studio Backdrops

Are you wondering where to buy photography studio backdrops?  I’ve spent some time to compile a list of places to buy backdrops around the internet.  Some specialize in cheaper backdrops, others have a more premium selection, and some simply have a ton.  Most suppliers carry some of most kinds of backdrops: cloth, muslin, canvas, paper, vinyl, faux tex, and anything else you may want.  They are in no particular order.

• Adorama Camera – Last time I checked, there were over 2,600 items in their “Backgrounds & Background Support Equipment” section.  Granted, not all of them are backdrops, but they have a huge variety of them for sure.  It’s very easy to narrow down what you’re looking for by manufacturer, size, color, pattern, etc.  As of January 2009, they’re offering a 10% discount when you buy three or more Belle Drape backgrounds as well.
• Backdrop Source – The Backdrop Source sells a variety of studio photography equipment, but primarily specializes in backdrops.  They offer several hundred different products, and it’s one of the best places I’ve found for single colored backdrops.  Reds, greens, white, cream, they have you covered.
• PhotographyProps.com – They’ve been around for quite some time, and have a small, high-quality selection of studio backdrops in various sizes, shapes, and colors.  Along with backgrounds, PhotographyProps.com specializes in various props to use for studio shots such as benches, chairs, angel wings, sports props, and more.  If you can’t find a backdrop you like, surely you’ll be able to find a prop that will enhance your studio work.
• Backdrop Outlet – I saw an ad for Backdrop Outlet in Popular Photography magazine, and it looks like a great place to buy backdrops.  They are based in California, and have a wide range of more specialty textured & patterned backdrops.  One of their more interesting lines is made of something called “Faux Tex,” a rubber-like material that has realistic patterns of walls, wood, stone, and more.  You can also get a free catalog of all their photography equipment and backdrops they sell.
• Auara Backdrops – Auara sells a wide variety of primarily large muslin backdrops.  They tend to specialize in Christmas and holiday backdrops, along with a nice selection of scenic, and hand-painted muslin backdrops.  Everything they sell appears to be very high quality, with a price to match.  If I ever need scenic backdrops, I’m going to Auara first.
• Last but not least, eBay – eBay is a fantastic place to buy backdrops.  Hundreds of suppliers from all over the country and world compete to offer a huge selection at low prices.  A quick search for “muslin backdrop” returns almost 3,000 results!  Surely you could find something you like.
