One thing that I have discovered is that it is not a good idea to have both the P and the Q drive connected to the computer at the same time when modifying catalogs. On both P and Q drives I had ensured that the photo file structures were indentical. Considering Q to be the “master” I then copied its catalog to P and ran a reconnect along the lines suggested by you. This appeared to be successful but when I disconnected the Q drive and ran the P catalog I found that several hundred files still required reconnection, all of which had a path commencing with the letter Q. I then, at some length, reconnected these files and now have a P catalog which functions correctly. It appears that with both drives connected to the computer that the catalog can read files from either drive depending on the path listed in the catalog.
I am still not entirely sure how I have achieved this but it appears to be vital to have identical photo structures on each drive and to disconnect the “master” from the computer before attempting to reconnect files on the other drive.
Many thanks for your help. I have read with interest many of your contributions to the forum.
