Re: PSE 8-is ‘backdrop’ possible with liquify filter?

Thanks Hatstead for trying to help.

Afraid that neither of those help though or i’m misunderstanding you.

I need to be able to see the underlying layer(the silhouette) whilst i’m using the liquify filter…at the moment whilst i’m applying the filter to the top layer i can’t see the underlying layer..because the liquify ‘window’ that opens up will only let me the see the layer that the filter is being applied to.

If i first make a selection of the silhouette, then select my other layer and go to liquify, the selection is used as a mask,so the filter is only applied to the unmasked areas…which doesn’t work for me as i need to ‘warp’ parts of the image that will be within that mask as well parts that are unmasked.

I guess that this is one of shortcomings of PSE compared to Full PS,maybe i’ll hunt around and see if there are any plugins that might address this.
