My system is not so bad. 8 core Mac Pro 2.8. 10GB Ram. My scratch is on the outer portion of a 1TB drive at full 50GB.
I’m buying an SSD for the benefit startup times. I want it to benefit LR in general too, specifically load time during Develop. Most of them 5D MKII files.
I’m looking at x-25m 80GB and the new 40GB OCZ Vertex Sandforce SSD. Same price range, the Sandforce with the faster writes. (alot faster)
The question is will the faster writes benefit the scratch and catalogue? Given the limited space of the Sandforce I’m planning a workflow of transferring the active project to the SSD to save space.
I know that the Sandforce is an unproven controller, but I’m just curious if there is a perceived difference in getting a faster writing SSD. SInce it’s new, perhaps anyone with an x25-e can chime in if they see a benefit vs the x25m?
